Inspira STEAM Wins First Prize at the Ministry of Education’s “2024 STEAM Alliance Awards”

The Ministry of Education recognizes Inspira STEAM’s work in closing the gender gap in science and technology.

Our program has been awarded first prize in the “public or private entities or organizations” category of the Classrooms for Equality Awards: 2024 STEAM Alliance Awards, presented by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, and Sports. This recognition highlights initiatives that promote STEAM careers among girls and young women, helping to close the gender gap in science and technology.

Since its launch in 2016, Inspira STEAM has embraced a pioneering group mentoring model for students in 6th grade and 7th grade, creating spaces for dialogue with professionals in research, science, and technology who participate on a voluntary basis. Thanks to this ongoing work, the award—worth 5,000 euros—recognizes the project’s track record and impact in fostering role models and opportunities for younger generations.

Over the course of our nine editions, we have collaborated with more than 2,800 female mentors and 300 male mentors, who have supported nearly 50,000 students from 550 schools. Our work has expanded across the Basque Country, Galicia, Asturias, La Rioja, Aragon, Catalonia, Madrid, Castellón, Murcia, the Canary Islands, and Andalusia, as well as Chile and Argentina, establishing a network of STEAM role models that inspires, guides, and breaks down stereotypes.

In our category, the City Council of Esplugues de Llobregat (second prize) and the Spanish National Research Council (third prize) were also recognized. Additionally, honorable mentions were awarded to the Department of Education of the Regional Government of Extremadura, the Young Women’s Federation, the ASTI Talent and Technology Foundation, and the CERES Foundation.

This award serves as an incentive to continue working toward a more equitable and inclusive education and reaffirms our commitment to developing female talent in areas that are strategic for the social and economic future.
